• Backgammon is a game that has always been part of the history of civilization and man has always felt the need to play in every age and corner of the planet.
Its invention dates back to the Sumerian kings who ruled Mesopotamia more than 5500 years ago and from there it has spread all over the world. Plato and Homer mention it in their works and some playing boards were even found in the tomb of the famous Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
The popularity of backgammon is owed in part to its profound symbology. Two players who challenge each other juxtaposing the white checkers of one with the black checkers of the other are a representation of the fight between good and evil, an ever-present struggle in the history of human affairs. Another element which is symbolically represented is fate. Backgammon games are certainly won with a dose of strategy but the luck of one player over the other is an equally important variable.
